What is neo-country schlock?
January 5, 2009
One good example:
Angry All The Time
Find Bruce Robison’s heartfelt and truthful version from his 1998 release, Wrapped , he is the writer, of this song.
For comparison check out Tim McGraw’s overblown, over produced lifeless rendition of the same song. Who cares where it is? It’s not hard to find country crap.
Basically, country music today sucks.
And what’s with that stupid hat? Is he bald?
Real cowboys don’t wear ‘em inside the house.

why would a music lover (assuming you are one Texguy) denounce an artist in the same genre? I guess I don’t understand why voicing that would be so important. To defend Tugs son, have you seen his red-hot smoking wife?
It is not the same genre. One is real music the other is commercial crap. We used to call it bubble gum.
Bruce Robison is real and authentic.
Tug’s baby boy is a waste of time and certainly not in the vein of George, Merle, Bob, Billy Joe, Ray Wylie, Bruce, Charlie and a million other musicians and writers who actually honor the music and can, and this is important, can actually write a song and not just sanitize the soul and heart of others.
Is Mr. Hill more talented than me? Abso-dang-lutley.
Unfortunately, that is not a high bar to jump.
We all have our tastes in music, art and literature.
Your input is welcome.
Must agree with ya Texguy. There is not a soul left in Nashville. Texas is where the good music flows, but sadly it’s also where the talented whore out there goods back up the food chain to Nashville. Thank God we can drive down the road to our local honky tonk and see the true soul of a song on a stage. Great blog keep it up.
